Unreal Fur is a Melbourne-based outerwear label founded in 2012 that positions itself around ethical design and the elimination of animal cruelty in fashion. The brand says it has been committed for over a decade to designing with vegan materials and no animal byproducts. Its sustainability-related content focuses on vegan fabrics, supplier audits, recycled packaging components, fabric off-cuts used in products, and a partnership with One Tree Planted. The company also states that its garments are designed with longevity in mind and that it acknowledges the Kulin Nations as sovereign custodians of the land on which it works.

Unreal Fur Sustainability Actions

Designing with vegan materials

For over a decade, we have been committed to designing with all vegan materials, ensuring no animal byproducts are incorporated in our garments.

Supplier audits and accreditation

Our suppliers are based in southern China, where the conditions are optimal for producing delicate faux fur and vegan leather fabrics. They have each supplied us with third party accreditation that meet international standards for work conditions and environmental protection. Each partner has supplied accreditation for labour standards and social compliance from organizations like Sedex, BSCI, and Bureau Veritas.

Recycled fabric into new products

Something that we have done from the beginning is recycling fabric into new products from scraps. There is a lot of wastage in the fashion industry from fabric scraps during the production process, but we try to save as much as possible! Most of our accessories, and even our Mini Me range use up fabric off-cuts, saving potential wastage by recycling scrap fabric!
