Valiant Sustainability Actions

Carbon-neutral operations

Valiant says it has been 100% carbon neutral since 2022. It says it measures emissions across energy use, operations, travel, and waste, then funds climate projects through Trace to offset those emissions. Carbon offsetting means paying for projects that reduce or remove greenhouse gases elsewhere to balance out a company’s own emissions. The company also says every job now includes a carbon footprint calculation, so clients can see the impact of the furniture they hire.

Launched a carbon calculator

Valiant launched a carbon calculator for furniture hire and styling. The tool estimates emissions from manufacturing, transport, delivery, and the length of hire. It also gives customers a certificate of impact with each order. This is meant to make the footprint of furniture easier to understand and report. The company says the calculator helps clients track emissions more clearly and support their own ESG reporting, which means reporting on environmental, social, and governance issues.

Expanded recycled furniture ranges

Valiant has introduced furniture lines made from post-consumer recycled plastics, which are plastics used by consumers and then collected and made into new products. One range, ReforaStone, is made from 100% recycled plastics. The company also says its eco-conscious furniture range includes thousands of items with recycled components, and that it aims to increase the share of recycled indoor fabric in new stock. This shows a move toward using materials that keep waste out of landfill for longer.

Recycling and reuse programs

Valiant says it runs a broad recycling program across its warehouses and offices. It uses paperless systems, recycles soft plastics and cardboard, and swaps disposable items for reusable ones such as furniture covers and cleaning cloths. It also says it uses eco-friendly cleaning products and takes part in recycling schemes like Containers for Change and the National Nespresso Pod recycling program. These steps are aimed at reducing waste and making day-to-day operations less resource-heavy.

Energy-saving warehouse upgrades

Valiant says it has made changes to save energy and water in its warehouses. Four of its five warehouses have skylights for natural light, and all use LED lighting, which uses less electricity than older lighting. It also says it has water tanks at its warehouses. These changes are simple but practical ways to lower resource use in operations.

Tree planting and climate projects

Valiant says it has funded climate projects and tree planting through partners such as Trace and Fifteen Trees. It says it has planted thousands of trees globally and supported projects in Australia and overseas, including biodiversity conservation, peatland protection, renewable energy, and clean water access. Tree planting can help restore habitats, but it does not replace cutting emissions at the source. The company presents these projects as part of its wider climate action work.

Community and charity support

Valiant says it supports community groups and charities through furniture donations, event support, and volunteering. It mentions work with FareShare, the Exodus Foundation, City West Housing, Lady Musgrave Trust, and the Children’s Hospital Foundation. It also says it has helped with events such as Clean Up Australia Day and fundraising activities. These actions are social responsibility efforts rather than direct environmental work, but they still sit within the company’s wider ESG approach.
