BONITA Sustainability Actions

Supplier engagement on Scope 3

If you haven’t yet, please consider inviting your suppliers to join. Especially with Scope 3 emissions, SMEs play a critical role in enabling the green shift across value chains. Building their capabilities is essential to achieving meaningful and scalable climate action.

Green Shift SME coaching

Green Shift is a joint initiative by United Nations ESCAP and Temasek Foundation, supporting SMEs to accelerate their green transition and strengthen sustainable supply chains across South-East Asia. In the Philippines, the programme is implemented in partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry and the Philippine Trade Training Center.

Sustainability reporting alignment

The Philippines is strengthening its sustainability reporting regime, through latest moves to align its standards with guidelines provided by the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB). Implementation will take place through three phases, commencing in FY 2026, with full adoption from FY 2028-2030, depending on the classification of the reporting entity.

Sustainable materials in footwear

In FY22, the Deckers UGG brand transitioned their standard Classic outsole to a “sugarcane EVA” composition beginning with the SS23 season. Sugarcane EVA is a preferred material because it is made using swift-growing, rainwater-fed, renewable sugarcane. Using sugarcane provides a more sustainable alternative to petroleum-based, non-renewable materials often used in conventional footwear.

Board oversight of ESG

Bonita Stewart joined the Deckers Board of Directors in 2014 and currently chairs the Corporate Responsibility, Sustainability and Governance Committee. From that perch, she monitors the company’s ESG (environmental, social and governance) activities.

EV charging infrastructure

She has invested in ChargerHelp!, the only national EVSE-dedicated operations and maintenance service provider. Bonita also served on the board of the EV infrastructure company, Volta Charging. Both Volta Charging and my personal investment with ChargerHelp! highlight the importance of charging infrastructure to support the growing purchase of electric vehicles (EVs).
