EnergyAustralia Sustainability Actions

Published environmental reporting

EnergyAustralia says it manages its operations in a responsible and sustainable way and reports on environmental performance. It also publishes monthly NSW site reports under local pollution rules, including Environment Protection Licence data and any licence exceedances. This gives the public a way to check how some of its power stations and mine sites are performing against their permits.

Set a climate transition plan

The company has a Climate Transition Action Plan, often shortened to CTAP. A climate transition plan is a roadmap for cutting emissions over time. EnergyAustralia says the plan covers net zero emissions for Scopes 1 and 2 by 2050, and it says it wants that ambition to extend to Scope 3 as well. Scope 1 means emissions from its own sites, Scope 2 means emissions from purchased electricity, and Scope 3 means other indirect emissions across the value chain.

Reported on sustainability before

EnergyAustralia has previously published sustainability reporting that was checked by an outside verifier. A LinkedIn post about its 2013 Sustainability Report says the report was independently verified by Net Balance at a limited assurance level, and that it followed the Global Reporting Initiative, or GRI, reporting rules. GRI is a common framework for explaining environmental and social performance in a standard way.

Improved hardship support ranking

EnergyAustralia says it was ranked in the top 3 retailers in Financial Counselling Australia’s 2025 Rank the Energy Retailer report for hardship practices. That report looks at how energy retailers treat customers who are struggling to pay bills. This suggests the company has taken steps on customer support, especially for people facing financial stress.
