Whimsy + Row is an eco-conscious lifestyle brand founded in 2014 and based in Los Angeles. Its sustainability approach centres on limited-run, locally made production, low-impact materials, waste reduction, recycled packaging, and the use of recycled water in garment production. The brand says it visits factories weekly to check fair wages and worker treatment, and it publishes detailed sustainability information on its website. It also states that it offsets emissions and has a take-back/resale program for its own clothing. The brand’s sustainability content also mentions community actions such as beach clean-ups, tree planting, and donations to organisations working on climate change, equal rights, fair wages, hunger, and homelessness.

Whimsy + Row Sustainability Actions

Limited-run, locally made

We cut limited quantities and lower our carbon footprint by producing locally. Majority of our clothing is made within a few miles from our office, meaning we can visit our factories weekly to ensure fair wages are given and the workers are being treated fairly. We have a waitlist feature on our website so that we know exactly how much to make of each product so we don’t over or under cut.

Low impact fabrics

We choose low impact fabrics like Certified Organic Cotton, Linen, TENCELâ„¢, Lenzing Modalâ„¢, Cupro, ECOVEROâ„¢, VISCOSE LENZINGâ„¢ and Deadstock/Upcycled Fabric. They use less energy, biodegrade faster than synthetic fabrics and use substantially less water to create.

Remnants and scraps reused

In our efforts to be zero-waste and close the loop, we donate our remnants of material in our production process to Remainders nearby in Pasadena. If we don’t have enough to make an entire piece of clothing, we gather the scraps and turn them into cute things like our home collection, bandanas, bucket hats and scrunchies.
