ZIGN is Zalando’s private label sustainability line and has been positioned as a flagship label within Zalando’s do.MORE strategy. The brand’s sustainability approach focuses on more sustainable materials, recycled content, social performance in its supply base, and factory environmental data reporting through the Higg Index. ZIGN collections have also used clearer product tagging to help customers identify sustainability attributes. Over time, ZIGN has been linked to broader work on circularity, including design for circularity, product transparency, and the use of more sustainable fibres such as organic cotton, recycled polyester and knitted fibres.

Zign Sustainability Actions

SS20 collection for sustainability

The SS2020 collection of Zalando’s private label features only items made with more sustainable materials. From now, all new products of Zalando’s private label ZIGN either contain 50 percent more sustainable materials, or at least 20 percent recycled content.

Supply base and Higg data

All ZIGN products in the 2020 collection are manufactured in the top 50 percent of our supply base when it comes to social performance. We also require these factories to submit environmental data to the Higg Index to help track and improve areas such as greenhouse gas emissions, water use and waste.

Sustainability flag tagging

The collection has an improved tagging system known as the ‘sustainability flag’ to help customers better understand the sustainability credentials of each product.
